Although Curtis was a quiet man, his life speaks volumes. He served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America and Salvation Army. Curtis was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served as President of the Club for three terms. Investments were another love of Curtis? so, he helped start an Investment Club in Red Oak, which is still going today. Curtis was one of the original members of the Toastmasters Club in Red Oak and was asked to be the area Governor. As an avid sports fan, while working in the basement, the TV was always turned to ball games, especially Nebraska football. Nothing escaped his fingers, he enjoyed working in the basement, making frames and framing pictures. He even built a bathroom addition onto the house. Home was important to Curtis and many hours were spent on finishing rooms, building cupboards, book cases and refinishing furniture. Curtis played cards in a card club for 35 years. Curtis loved to jitterbug and he and Peg enjoyed square dancing and round dancing. ![]() Later, they enjoyed visiting their daughters at college, Iowa and Iowa State and watching ball games. Curtis and Peg treasure their children and enjoyed attending all their activities, ball games and high school events. When Curtis retired, he sold real estate for ABC Realty and worked for Evergreen Lawns. When the Red Oak Express changed ownership, he worked 10 years for Thomas D. ![]() Curtis was united in marriage to Peg Day on Jat Villisca, Iowa. During his 10 years as a stockholder, he served as secretary. ![]() He worked as Production Manager at the Red Oak Express for 33 years and also enjoyed part ownership of the newspaper for 10 years. After the service, he saw an ad in a paper for a printer?s job at the Red Oak Express. He later served as a Construction Foreman and was discharged in October of 1946, as rank of Sergeant. Army during WW II, attending Demolition and Parachutist school. High and continued there until he graduated from Manson High School in l944. Curtis went to work for the Manson Journal while in Jr. Curtis and his mother moved to Manson, Iowa after the death of his father in l937. Curtis was raised on a farm in the Manson-Pocahontas area. He died on Wednesday, Augafter an extended illness at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 28 days.
